Mendeley (English): Collect sources

A manual of the reference program Mendeley. Here you will find what Mendeley is, how to install it and how Mendeley works.

Home screen

If you are logged in you will see:

  1. A screen with credentials or a blank screen when using Mendeley for the first time.
  2. On the left you see a menu: click on All Documents to make all references appear in the middle. If you click on a title in the middle part, the metadata of the record appears on the right. Here you can also add or change something.
  3. If you have created Groups they will appear here

Import references

In Mendeley you can manually add references via:

  • Click on 'Add new'
  • The “Add entry manually” screen appears.
  • For example, choose the Type : Journal Article' and fill in the data:
  • Click on 'Add entry

 

 

Import references from browser

You can import references in your web browser [Chrome or...] to Mendeley via:

  • Go to Mendeley Desktop > Tools and select 'Install Web Importer'. You go to: https://www.mendeley.com/reference-management/web-importer
  • Click on “Get Web Importer for Chrome”
  • Click on “Add to [....]” or “Add to [...]”
  • A small Mendeley icon appears at the top right. 
  • Now go to Google Scholar and do a search:  
  • Now click on the Mendeley icon:
  • A login screen will appear:
  • Use your created login and password for Mendeley.
  • Check the references and wait for the PDFs to be imported.
  • Choose “Add” and click “View Library…”

All references are stored at: https://www.mendeley.com/library/ and synced every time your desktop version boots up.
