The first step is to download and install the necessary software. These include:

Mendeley Reference Manager can be downloaded from the Mendeley website. Select "Download Now" and install Mendeley Reference Manager on your computer.
Note HVHL users: If you work on a PC or laptop from HVHL, Mendeley Reference Manager is already installed, only the Mendeley Web Importer and Mendeley Cite still need to be installed.
After installing the Mendeley Reference Manager you will be asked to create an account with Elsevier. Elsevier manages Mendeley.
Creating an account is done via your email address. Choose your personal e-mail or your student e-mail.
Tip: If you want to be able to use the account after your student days, we recommend that you opt for your personal email.
NB! Do not choose the option "Sign in via your institution". This option does not work properly. For this, choose the registration method via email.
You install the Mendeley Web Importer in this way:
Please note: if you work on a PC or laptop of Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences, you do not have to go through the steps below. The Mendeley Cite add-in has already been added by the school administrator in Word. You can find the add-in in Word under References (see 3rd image below).
You install Mendeley Cite in the following way:
If Mendeley Cite is not immediately visible, try opening Word again.

If you still don't see this Mendeley Cite button, try this:
click on 'Insert ' in Word and then on 'My Add-ins'.
In the next screen, click on 'ADMIN MANAGED' and below that on 'Mendeley Cite' and on 'Add".
